Here you will find images of Dave Whiffin's postcard collection.
Dave moved into the village from Basildon around 1974.
In the process of tracing his family history he noticed that there were several postcards for sale on Ebay about Hullbridge and thought how nice it would be to start a collection.
Todate he has amassed 82 postcards starting c1920 to 2007. Dave's collection is truely wonderful !

Brickworks Water Tower

The postcard photo was taken approx., 1940 of the Brickworks Water Tower situated on the bend in Pooles Lane, Hullbridge. The Photographer shot the tower from Pooles Lane towards the river. The tower lost the top wooden part in the late 1950's when it was replaced with castle battlement style roof during the time the site was Tower Caravan Site. The Tower was demolished to make way for more caravans around 1990's.

The postcard photo was taken approx., 1940 of a bungalow owned by Mr and Mrs Hale called Twist Niet. It was situated on The Walk, Hullbridge

The postcard photo was taken approx., 1940's. The property is a stylish bungalow with the then vogue Tudor styling. It had a balcony at one gabled end and a bow window. In the garden can be seen it's flag pole with the Union Jack flying at full mast. The property is surrounded by a picket fence and has a double gate to allow cars to drive onto the land. On one of the gates is the name of the property "Twist Niet"

The postcard photo was taken approx., 1940's it shows the type of properties being built on the Esplanade, Hullbridge. As with most new development in the village at that time, roads were not thought to be important so owners drove to their properties over grass. A number of the property owners on the Esplanade also had their own jetties on the River Crouch.
