Later it was converted and re-named to "The Smugglers Den" social club which was licensed in 1947.Just beyon the Pavilion is Crouch Cottage. Ye Olde Anchor tea rooms and Anchor Cottages

The postcard photo was taken approx., 1950's. The Photographer is standing in the Ferry Road just before the entrance to the Anchor Inn. The photograph shows a couple entering the Olde Anchor Tea Rooms which was situated at the end of the old Anchor Cottages. The cottages themselves are a good example of how the popularity of Hullbridge as a tourist destination had its effect on the village. During this time properties were being given a face lift to make them more appealing to the tourists. Here the cottages have been changed to be in keeping with the vogue style of the times Tudor. The Malus tree in front of one of the windows is still there today but alas the tea rooms are no longer.
