The original7 founder members were :- Mrs Smythe, Mr Wilton (secretary), Mr Crabb, Mr Howe, Mr Edwards, Mr Hayward and Mr Watson. </p> <p class="history"> The Association was one of the first in South East Essex and subsequently members helped Hockley and Rayleigh to start their own allotments associations. Later the word "Gardens" was added to the name and it became known as the Hullbridge Allotments and Gardens Association. The original trustees were Mr W.A.Lucas and Mr J.C. Watson. </p> <h2 class="year"> 1947 </h2> <p class="history"> Mr Eddy a local resident of the village who owned land around Coventry Corner gave a piece of land in Granley Gardens, Hullbridge to be used as allotments as part of the  Dig for Victory campaign . A shed was erected on site for storage of tools, materials, etc. </p> <h2 class="year"> 1950 </h2> <p class="history"> Trustee Mr Lucas retires his position and is replaced by Mr H.F. Wilby. </p> <h2 class="year"> 1951 </h2> <p class="history"> The Association holds its first Flower and Vegetable show. </p> <h2 class="year"> 1952 </h2> <p class="history"> The Granley Gardens site was used until 1952 when the plot at 123, Ferry Road was purchased from Mrs Ethel Chalton for £250. Mrs Chalton lived in High Elms farmhouse on the site where the Co-Op now stands and the current HGA shop plot was part of the farmyard. Cllr W Wright and Cllr Long... Three new volunteers were voted onto the Committee:- Mr C Hall, Mr L. Insole and Mr F Bartlett<br/> A new notice board donated by Mr J White has been erected in front of the shop. To see the press clipping on this please <a href="images/Press Clippings/1964/Paper_clipping_1964_HGA 15 July.jpg"> <em> CLICK HERE </em> </a> </p> <p class="event"> 15 Aug </p> <p class="history"> On the Saturday 15th August the 13th Hullbridge Garden Assocation's Flower and Vegetable show took place in the Village Hall in Ferry Road. the show was attended by the club's Chairman Mr. Bernard Braine, M.P. and the exhibits were judged by Mr &amp; Mrs W.Gooch and Mr R Cottam, R.H.S. Dip., A special guest, Mr A. Vincent (past chairman of the society came from his home in Weston-Super_Mare, Somerset to be present at the show and to present his the trophy he had donated, The Vincent Trophy, for the best in show.
