The Hullbridge Centre

The Hullbridge Centre, Windermere Avenue, Hullbridge. Tel:- 01702 232060

Welcome to the Hullbridge Centre Web site !

We thank you for taking the time to take a look and hope you will be enthused to come and visit the centre and see what it has to offer you. You will be welcomed warmly!

Do you like dancing, either watching or participating or perhaps just like listening to music that makes you tap your feet. Perhaps you would like to learn to dance ? then the centre is definitely the place for you to go to. If you like competition then why not try Short mat bowls, Pool, Cards or Darts at the centre, we have players of differing abilities waiting for your challenge. Are you interested in the History of Hullbridge or would you like to learn about computers but you do not have one at home, then please come and take a look.We aim to please !

The center was built in the 70's primarily for the use of the village folk of Hullbridge who are 50 and over. It is a great place for villagers to meet, talk and generally have lots of fun. There is the added bonus that it provides excellent two course lunches for £2.80 on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday every week.

The centre is run by an elected committee with the current Chairman: Barbara Port and Vice Chairman Janet Stracey constantly looking for ways to provide what the villagers want. If you have any suggestions please feel free to contact the Center and express you views / wishes.

If you are unable to get to the centre by your own means, phone the centre and we can give you some options and sometimes provide you with transport.

The centre has been designed to accommodate the disabled. So there is no excuse for stopping indoors and becoming a hermit !

The centre has its own kitchen and serving counter, a small stage and sound system but does not have a license to sell alcohol, but this does not stop villagers bringing along their own.

News items

Recently we have had several ex-villagers returning and spending the day with us reminiscing on their good times in the village, why not do the same or pop in and see who might be visiting ?

Jan Withers (middle) and Colin Hodson (right) spent the day with us. Colin and Jan, a professional chef by trade, were very complimentary about the lunch and have promised to visit us again. Jan was particularly happy to see again a neighbour of his family when he was a child, Mrs Eadie Brunt. Their memories can be found on the Hullbridgevillage web site.

We received from Mr Paul Henwood and Mrs Anne Crozier each a computer, printer, mouse and keyboard with loads of software pre installed, this is an extremely welcome addition to the facilities we can offer. Part of the pre-installed software is a copy of the Hullbridge Memories and History website so even if you do not have broadband or a computer at home and are interested in the history of Hullbridge you can now come into the centre and spend a few hours reading and marvelling at its contents, or you may like to play one of the pre installed card games, or write and print some letters etc., all of this is now available at the centre to compliment the computer training we can offer.

We hope to soon have a broadband connection and webcam which will allow people to contact family through the internet, thereby making the world a lot smaller.

We are looking for people who are interested in writing or talking about there life, especially if you were born or lived in the village.

We have received requests for and are hoping to add some new activities in 2009. They are:-

  1. "I Remember when". a vocal history meeting.
  2. Family Research course.
  3. Stitching.
