SUNSHINE ALL THE WAY.
Saturday's early morning threat of stormy weather cleared right away by lunchtime and Hullbridge's 17th Annual Carnival and Fete got away to its brightest and most promising start for some time now.
It was sunshine all the way and after lunch for the visiting celebrities in the beautifully appointed Park Country Club, the whole calvacadeof Carnival was under way.
Hullbridge's own trio of lovely Royce sisters, "Queen" June, attended by Linda and Hazell (pictured in photo) were in turn supported by "Queen" Jane of Southend and four members of her court, Toni Campbell (Deputy Queen), Veronica Allen, Maralyn Prior and Wendy Lucas. The procession led by Gwen Beckwith riding her proudly stepping horse Pal, included some new and rather novel features this year. (Incidentally, we hear that Gwen became engaged to Peter Clift on Saturday, no wonder she looked gay and pleased with herself as she led the day). Hullbridge's "Queen" June, and court, rode on a float modelled as a formal garden (See Photo with Carnival Committee Chairman Mr Allen). Southend's contribution, their Queen's float, took the form of a huge flower basket and was flanked by a contingent of Southend Sea Cadets from T.S.Implacable, led by Mr E.H.Muller C.P.O.

A7 CLUB ROUTE TO SUCCESS AT HULLBRIDGE.
The Southend Austin Seven Club turned up with five of their redoubtable little motors, all gleaming with spit and polish, and one tiny Austin 7 van towing what looked like a Mary Poppins tableau. Mr Oswald Hallams of Stanmore Motors, Southend, the man in charge, gave an interesting run down on the history of the club. "They are a wonderful little car," said Mr Hallams, who has been servicing them now for 30 odd years. "Lord Nuffield made them to last too long."(His own little van, which at times takes on some pretty heacy tow jobs, was made in 1926.) Apparently the "Austin Magazine" suggested it was high time he formed an Austin 7 Club. He sent out 10 applications, received three replies and from these, in April 1963, the club was formed. They certainly did a grand job of collecting on Saturday, about the only thing the boys didn't do was drive through the villagers' own front doors with collection boxes at the ready.

MONEY FALLS FROM THE AIR.
THe Hullbridge Youth Club had a float in the 1967 Carnival. Here we see Carl Twyman and Trevor Chamberlain both of Tower Caravan Site and Dave Allen of . In the age old tradition of Carnivals money is collectd from spectators by various means, here the money is falling from the sky to be caught in a tin. The Youth Club is held at the Village Hall every Thursday night.
